Code of Conduct for Junior Sport

Coach / Manager

  • I will remember that we are a community club, players participate for enjoyment and winning is only part of the fun.

  • I will follow the guidelines and culture of the club and directions of the volunteers: abiding by club decisions, contributing where I can and respecting club initiatives as conveyed by the Committee.

  • I will never ridicule or yell at players for making a mistake or not winning.

  • I will be reasonable in my demands on players’ time, energy and enthusiasm.

  • I will operate within the rules and spirit of the game and teach my players to do the same. I undertake to abide by the rules of football as determined by Football Australia and participate according to the rules as would apply if I was a player.

  • I will ensure that the time players spend with me is a positive experience. All players, in my team and others, are deserving of equal attention and opportunities.

  • I will avoid overplaying the talented players and understand that the average players need and deserve equal time.

  • I will not use bad language nor will I harass players, officials, spectators or other coaches.

  • I will ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of all players.

  • I will display control, respect and professionalism to all involved with the sport including opponents, referees, coaches, officials, administrators, the media, parents, spectators, other coaches, the committee and the Exec, understanding that the decisions and intentions of the Exec bind me. I will encourage my players to do the same.

  • I will show concern and caution toward sick and injured players and follow the advice of a physician when determining whether an injured player is ready to recommence training or competition.

  • I will obtain appropriate qualifications and keep up to date with the latest coaching practices and the principles of growth and development of young players.

  • I will not arrive at the venue intoxicated or drink alcohol at junior matches.

  • I will respect the rights, dignity and worth of all people involved in the game, regardless of their gender, ability or cultural background.

  • I will get my WWCC and advise the club of my details, ensure that I am aware of Football NSW’s child safe policy and any mandated responsibility to report suspicion of child abuse and neglect. I will complete "Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport Induction" available on the Sport Integrity Australia e-learning hub: elearning.sportintegrity.gov.au (NOTE: the Optional "Recruitment and Screening" course is not required)

  • I will restrict any physical contact with children and ensure that any physical contact with a young person is appropriate.

  • I will avoid developing any ‘special’ relationships with children and ensure that I show no favouritism such as the offering of gifts or special treatment. This includes intimate relationships and personal online social networking with team members.

  • I will remember that children learn best by example so I will applaud good plays/performances by both my team and their opponents

  • I will give positive comments that motivate and encourage continued effort. I will focus on my team’s efforts and performance – not the score

  • I will thank all the coaches, officials and other volunteers who give their time to conduct the event for my team

  • I will help when asked by another coach, official or committee, respecting similar requests to, for example, not partake in grading if directed and to avoid any and all comments to parents about grading.

  • I won’t criticise or ridicule my team’s performance after the game. I will respect the rights, dignity and worth of all people involved in the game, regardless of their gender, ability or cultural background.

  • I will promote adherence to anti-doping policies.
